Estádio do Dragão
Estádio do Dragão is the home stadium of the local football team, FC Porto. Built in 2004, it can host up to 50 thousand people and is located just outside the city center. We got lucky and managed to visit Porto when their mens team were playing in the Europa league against VFB Stuttgart, which FC Porto won 2-0. The athmosphere was amazing and you have the chance to watch a game, you have to do it. If you visit Porto when theres no games, my recommendation is to do a stadium tour, which we also did. You get to see the stadium empty and even get to take pictures on the bench. Included in the stadium tour is also the FC Porto museum, where you can take a picture with the real Champions league trophy, which FC Porto has won twice, in 1987 and 2004. Even if you are not a football fan, its a must visit.
Mercado do Bolhão
Mercado do Bolhão is a market located in the centre of Porto. The market sells everything from food, fruits, vegetables to souvenirs. Even though its quite pricy and touristy, its definitly worth trying. We stopped by for lunch and tried marinated mussels, cod, bifana (Pork bread roll marinated in piri piri sauce) and fresh tuna. The fish was super fresh and really good and it is definitly worth a try, even though its quite difficult to find somewhere to sit down and eat. Mercado do Bolhão is located near the Bolhão metro and is open all day, everyday of the week except sunday.
Things to do in porto
Dom Luise Bridge
A very famous and tourist Bridge located at the Douro River. The bridge connects the two cities, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. The bridge itself is made by a partner of Gustav Eiffel, and you can definitly see similiarites between the bridge and the Eiffel tower. The bridge itself is beautiful, but the view on top of the bridge, overlooking the river, is the highlight in our opinion. You can easily get on top of the bridge by taking line D on the metro and getting of on São Bento station. If you want to se the bridge underneath, walk to the river on either the Porto side or the Vila Nova de Gaia
